Meeting with the Teachers of Desnianskyi and Pecherskyi Districts of Kyiv
On March 20, 2018, Yana Horodniak, the deputy head of the Excursion and Education Department of the museum, together with Olha Vyhodovanets, the tour guide of the 1st category, met with the teachers from Pecherskyi and Desnianskyi districts of Kyiv.
The museum employees presented the educational projects on the Holodomor and told about the directions of the work of the Holodomor Victims Memorial. Yana Horodniak spoke about the experience of conducting the workshops “How to Distinguish Fake and Truth in the Mass Media.”
The purpose of this lesson is to create a responsible attitude towards the disclosure of information about injustice and gross violations of human rights. The lesson is interactive and consists of two exercises and a movie. Students work with original historical documents and media texts. Children learn how to read and analyze historical materials. This helps to form the personal attitude and understanding of history.
During the class, students watch the educational film “Territory of Holodomor: Memory Eternal” and discuss it. The film focuses on the issue of the responsibility of media in covering and concealing the human rights violations. The history of the Holodomor, as a lesson of history, tells us that the murder of 7 million Ukrainians remained unnoticed in the world in the 1930s and over the next 50 years. It was covered by the stream of official objections and journalistic lies.
Also, all students received a brochure created on the basis of the materials of the exhibition “We Were Killed Because We Were Ukrainians.” The publication presents the most important information on the Holodomor-Genocide in a way easy for comprehension.
