The museum staffs teach children to make memorial badges

During the last few years, museum staffs have developed interactive classes for children of all ages. On September 27, 2018, pupils of the 9th form of the First School of the Shevchenko district of Kyiv visited our new master-class for the making of a memorial badges.

Initially, participants listened to a lecture about the tradition of commemorating Holodomor victims on the fourth Saturday of November. The senior researcher of the museum, Olga Vygodovanets, told the children about the history of commemorating the millions of Ukrainians, starved to death, since 1933, when sorrowful events took place only outside the borders of Ukraine. In Ukraine, however, the events like this were strictly prohibited. The students also learned about the first ceremonies of honoring the Holodomor victims in independent Ukraine, as well as they commemoration today.

After the lecture, according to the instruction by Olga, the pupils made a badge for the memory about the visit to the Holodomor Victims Memorial.

Educational projects are a priority area of work for the Holodomor Victims Memorial. By sharing knowledge of the history of the Holodomor with the young generation, the museum staff teaches tolerance, the protection of human dignity and freedom, the respect of the memory of victims, empathy.
