"The construction of this museum is a matter of honor for the whole nation and every Ukrainian" – Yevhen Nyshchuk said
On February 20, 2019, at a meeting of the Government, the Minister of Culture of Ukraine Yevgeniy Nyschuk made a presentation devoted to issues of state support and development of historical national memory, the press service of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine reported.
The Minister of Culture noted that after the completion of the construction Ukraine will receive the first Museum of Holodomor in the world, which will have an area of the main exhibition about 4 thousand square meters, separate space for temporary exhibitions, conference and cinema halls, spaces for educational projects, the most comprehensive library of publications on this topic, archival center, and the Institute for the Holodomor Research will be located there.
With the architectural project of the museum and its filling work specialists from Ukraine and from Europe, in particular the leading European studio from Warsaw. According to the authors’ plan, the architectural form is the embodiment of the idea of bringing to light the truth about the Holodomor, specifically for decades. The hidden history resembles not only the tectonic layers that cover the building, but also the architectural solution, which is to place part of the building underground. Similarly, the symbolic features of the roof of the building and the displacement of its half are to show how the actions of people lead to the disclosure and declassification of the crime. The monumental entrance to the building is located on the side of the Candle of Memory – a gate that leads deep into the ground and to the truth hidden in it, which will be shown by the main exposition.
“The construction of this museum is a matter of honor for the whole nation and every Ukrainian. With due respect for the memory of those killed by famine in 1932-1933, we will fulfill our human duty to them. The knowledge disseminated by the Museum is intended to prevent the repetition of similar crimes in the future and to be an antidote to any attempts to deny our national tragedy and diminish its scale,” Yevgeny Nyschuk emphasized.
