Visit of President of Swiss Confederation Simonetta Sommaruga
On July 21, 2020, the President of the Swiss Confederation Simonetta Sommaruga visited the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide.
She laid a decorative composition of ears of wheat and berries to the sculpture “Bitter Memory of Childhood” and got acquainted with the exposition of the museum.
According to the Embassy of Ukraine in Switzerland, this is the first three-day state visit of the President of the Swiss Confederation in the history of Swiss-Ukrainian relations. Also for both Ukraine and Switzerland, this is the first high-level official visit since the end of restrictive measures in connection with the coronavirus pandemic.
The purpose of the bilateral talks is to develop contacts between the leaders of Ukraine and Switzerland, and to deepen political dialogue at all levels.
On July 21, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky will meet with the President of the Swiss Confederation Simonetta Sommaruga. During the visit, the presidents are expected to pay a joint working visit to Donbass to get acquainted with the security and socio-economic situation in the region, as well as with the state of implementation of Swiss humanitarian aid projects, UKRINFORM reports.
