Presentation of First Historical Tourist Application about the Holodomor in Kyiv

The Holodomor Museum presents the first tourist historical application Track Holodomor History, which will tell about Kyiv in 1932–1933 through archival documents and photos, eyewitnesses’ stories and still unknown facts.

We invite you to the presentation, which will take place on October 22 at 11:00 in the Holodomor Museum. Live broadcast will be available on the official Facebook page.

Olesia Stasiuk, Director General of the National Museum of the Holodomor Genocide;
Yanina Alieieva, curator, leading specialist in project management (“Audiovisual Art”) of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation;
Representative of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy;
Representative of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory;
Dmytro Kalhanov, acting Head of the Department of Tourism and Promotions of the Kyiv City State Administration;
Mariana Oleskiv, Head of the State Agency for Tourism Development of Ukraine;
The event will be moderated by the project curator Iryna Kurhanska.

The application was created by the team of the Holodomor Museum with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.

Project curator Iryna Kurhanska says, “Track Holodomor History is an absolutely unique product. It is educational, but not boring. We collected facts, documents, memories of people and stories of whole families, old photos and video chronicles. Many materials have been voiced or translated into comics. The story does not remain the text on the pages of the textbook, but comes to life in the hands. All the information in the application is not available to the average person in any other form—it either lies in the archives, or is scattered in the original sources that still need to be verified. The story is much closer: in the houses where we live, in the streets we walk, and now just in our pockets—in a smartphone.”

The developers claim that the daily routes of modern Kyivites and guests of the capital can turn into historical research, and familiar buildings will tell unknown stories.

Thanks to the application you can:

  • see the locations of Kyiv: houses, streets, parks, buildings and read their history of the 1930s;
  • see archival photos, videos, documents on the history of the Holodomor;
  • get acquainted with the memories of Kyivites about life in Kyiv in 1932–1933;
  • pave your own route through locations and go through them or use already created routes;
  • discover “additional content” that becomes available only within 400 meters from the location.
