University of Indiana (USA) Will Hold a Lecture about the Holodomor

On October 27, at 18:00 Kyiv time, a lecture on the Holodomor will be given by the American historian Giroaki Kuromiya. Later, Svitlana Markova, director of the Holodomor Research Institute, and Tetiana Soproniuk, an employee of the Holodomor Museum, will talk about the museum’s commemorative practices and activities in the field of public and digital history.

The tasks of museums today go far beyond the preservation of cultural and historical heritage. That is why the National Museum of the Holodomor Genocide functions as the main center of commemoration of the victims of the genocide of 1932–1933, telling Ukrainians and the world the truth about the deep trauma inflicted on Ukrainians by the Soviet regime. Speaking of this painful experience requires the use of commemorative practices of various kinds—from mass national campaigns to individual work with each visitor.

The conversation about the Holodomor is initiated by the Organization of Ukrainian Studies at Indiana State University, USA.
