Holodomor Museum has published a graphic novel based on Jerry Berman’s biography and letters
The Museum has recently published a new edition: a graphic novel entitled “Letters from the Attic”. This short graphic story is based on the letters of Jerry Berman, one of many foreigners who worked in Ukraine in 1932–1933 and witnessed how communism was “built” in the USSR.
Berman was shocked by Soviet reality and described the horrors he witnessed in numerous letters to his family. Many years later, Alison Marshall, whose grandparents were close friends with Jerry, found part of the correspondence. Realising the value of the letters, she donated them to our Museum.

We spent several months adapting this story for readers of all ages: the text was written by Halyna Holubieva, Olha Vyhodovanets, and Yana Horodniak; the illustrations were drawn by Anna Komar; and the design was created by Viktoriia Odnosum.
The book costs 50 UAH. You can purchase the picture book at the museum ticket office.
