Z and V on military equipment of the Russian Federation

To mark their military equipment during the invasion of Ukraine, the Russians use several different markings – “Z”, surrounded by a square “Z”, “V”, “O”. The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation did not publish the exact interpretation of these symbols. However, according to the information of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, each means the region from which the attack is taking place or the unit assignment.

Now it is no longer important what significance these letters had on military equipment: in Russian propaganda, they received a “second wind”. Some symbols did not take root, but Z and V “moved” from tanks and armoured personnel carriers to the heads of the Russians. Nowadays, they are used at almost every Russian pseudo-patriotic event.
