Scientific and practical workshop "Study of the Holodomor-Genocide in educational institutions. Forms and Means of Studying Organization"

18 November 2018

To commemorate the 85th anniversary of Holodomor-Genocide, and according to the Memorandum of Cooperation on November 19, 2018, the National Museum “Holodomor Victims Memorial”, together with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, will hold a training and practical seminar for headmasters and teachers of institutions of general secondary education in Kyiv on the topic “Study of the Holodomor-Genocide in educational institutions. Forms and means of studying organization”.

Today, with the process of opening of archives and access to secret information, it became possible to study the causes, scale and mechanism of the Holodomor-genocide deeply and in more detail. The analysis of school curricula allows to say that there is not enough number of studying hours allocated to the topic of Holodomor-genocide. Indeed, even a brief acquaintance with the difficult period of the 1930s gives answers to many contemporary issues. Its in-depth study will provide the basis for understanding the modern mentality of Ukrainians. It will help to realize that the destruction of Ukrainian traditions and the humiliation of the people lasted for decades. The pressure of the totalitarian regime, the terror by the means of starvation, led not only to massive demographic losses, but also to the changes in the mentality of Ukrainians.

During the scientific and practical workshop such issues will be considered as the latest deep studies on the Holodomor’s history, which are recommended to teachers for use in the preparation of history lessons. Also, the media education technologies and the latest interactive forms and methods of teaching as a means of forming the core competencies of students will be spoken about.

The purpose of the scientific and practical workshop is to inform the administrations of institutions of general secondary education on the importance and necessity of studying the history of Holodomor in school.
