Liudmyla Denisova: Russia’s war against Ukraine is a genocide of the Ukrainian people with special cruelty!

11 March 2022

Russia’s war against Ukraine is neither an armed conflict, nor an absurd phrase “special operation,” but it is the GENOCIDE of the Ukrainian people with special cruelty! It was emphasized by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova in her statement.

“In 1949, as a result of the devastating World War II, European countries adopted the most significant instrument of international humanitarian law – the four Geneva Conventions. Having ratified them, countries of the civilized world confirmed their intention never again to allow such a tragedy, – said the Ombudsman in a statement. – At the heart of these conventions and their protocols is the prohibition of killing and ill-treatment of civilians, the destruction of civilian infrastructure, and the use of weapons that cause undue damage or unnecessary suffering.

In the best traditions of the Hitlerite empire, the Russian Federation’s military forces fire primarily on civilians and civilian infrastructure, killing every hour and leveling entire cities and villages. The usage of weapons that is prohibited under the Geneva Conventions and numerous international treaties.

In the Sumy region, Okhtyrka, the enemy used thermobaric ammunition – the so-called “vacuum bomb” hit the oil tank. In 1976, the UN passed a resolution declaring weapons of this type “inhumane means of warfare, causing excessive human suffering.”

Kharkiv is shelled by cluster bombs filled with “petal” mines, recognized as illegal weapons under the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production, and Transfer of Cluster Munitions and on Their Destruction.

Enemy anti-personnel mines were found near residential buildings in Berdyansk, Zaporizhzhia region, which is not permitted under the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production, and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on Their Destruction.

The use of such weapons by enemy troops against civilians is a crime against humanity and a violation of all four 1949 Geneva Conventions.

Russia’s war against Ukraine is neither an armed conflict, nor an absurd phrase “special operation,” but it is the GENOCIDE of the Ukrainian people with special cruelty!

I appeal to the international community to apply sanctions to Russia commensurate with the crimes of the terrorist state!

The future of the whole civilized world is being decided now on Ukrainian land! Ukraine needs your help!”
