Russian singer, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Nadezhda Babkina supported Russia’s criminal full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Shortly after the invasion, she published a post on her social networks, the content of which is absolutely consistent with Putin’s propaganda. It emphasised that Russians allegedly “cannot calmly observe the abuse of Russian people” and that in Ukraine “such abuse is tacitly supported at the state level.” She called Ukrainians and Russians “fraternal peoples who pit against each other.”

Babkina stated that Russia should “defend its internal resources, its honour, its homeland and its people.”

In May 2022, in an interview, she said that “Russia is doing everything right” and that she wants her country to “achieve its goals.” The singer called Ukraine “a bargaining chip of the West”, which “found itself under strong propaganda directed against the Russians”.

Babkina cynically stated that the Russian invaders were advancing so slowly in Ukraine because the Russian Federation is “for the preservation of human lives.”

At the end of August, Babkina and Moscow State Academic Theatre “Russian Song” performed in occupied Luhansk. The singer sang not only Russian but also Ukrainian songs from the stage. She cynically explained that by using Ukrainian songs, she seems to want to “preserve the diversity of culture, because aggression is the way to nowhere.”

During a trip to Donbas, she also visited Mariupol, which was bombed by the Russians. After that, the singer lamented how the city suffered, but did not say a word about the bombing of Mariupol by the Russians. She cynically told Russian propaganda media that she was “very sad and sorry” and that she “doesn’t understand how it can be in the 21st century.” The singer kept silent about the fact that it was Russia that attacked Ukraine, and that is why Ukrainian cities are now in such a deplorable state.
